The Ariel Atom in Australia? Tell me about it!

Yep, the time for action is definitely now and if you're an Atom fan based in Australia, we've got a plan and we want you to be involved.

Now everyone's best friend, Jeremy Clarkson, had a chance to take the Ariel Atom out for a spin a LONG TIME AGO and being that Australia is obviously the last country to get lots of good stuff (iphone anyone?) you'd have to expect that getting the Atom to Australia is a low priority to everyone living outside Australia, but that's obviously not the case for you (and us). This desire has been simmering since 2005 (yep, that's a long time to see no results) and we just can't contain it anymore so it's time to do something about it!

Short of being rude, we're doing all we can to get further information regarding the Atom, the possibility of getting it to Australia and on the roads, because like you, we just can't keep waiting, so here's what we're planning to:
To support our plans, we want EVERY SINGLE VISITOR TO THIS SITE to add a comment to this post to show your support for getting the Atom to Australia. Getting a good idea of how much demand there actually is in Australia will hopefully show that we're serious about getting the Atom here. So post a comment, tell us how badly you want it and that WE DESERVE TO SEE THE ATOM IN AUSTRALIA!

Hey guys, Just to let you all know i have build one here in brisbane, out of a old VW 73 beetle then bolted the exoskeleton to the top of the VW only took 3 month to build put a few saftey impovments on it o and i put a 20b rotary in it with standard gearbox that i will be upgrading. engineer has approved everything just waiting on Queensland transport, from what i have seen in approvels on the real atom it will never be done here in australia because of ADR and saftey standards.
Any way good luck with everything :email walkertec@msn.com

Awesome vehicle & cheaper on fuel than most.

Being a member of a sporting car club I'd get one just to do events.

I was holding out for an Atom for quite a while, but instead ended up getting an Audi.

Would DEFINITELY consider a swap if these become available!

+1 on the WANT list!

Anonymous said...

Just saw one couple days ago in Sydney ON ROAD!!!!! Great looking car, can't say the same for the driver though.

Unknown said...

I can't believe that it's taken so long to get them ADR approved. I've just built a GT40 replica from the ground up with no experience at all in less than 12 months and its' road legal. I reckon I could get an Atom through compliance in about a month.
Get you fingers out!!

Anonymous said...

i will own one of these one day but i would love to be able to drive it on the road. in stead of having to own a car trailor to take it to a meet.

maybe someone should push for a dealership. i can only imagine all the neck injuries sustained buy people as you cruise past
=)

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease give us the Atom and let us drive it on the public roads.

Anonymous said...

godamn i want one

Unfortunatley for me I'm just about to turn 24 so I doubt that I will have the funds to buy an Atom any time soon :( However, from the very first moment i saw the Atom on Top Gear I knew that I had to have one. You guys should also think about seting up a petition that you can send to the government. I hope that i can buy an atom when I'm 32 and filthy rich.

Anonymous said...

Out of all the cars on the road today the atom in my books would have to be number one ... But in a way im glad we dont have them down under because i know that it would take less than 2.4 sec for me to loose my licence and it would be a shame to have this beast locked up in my shed .....Sorry guys im no hoon but im sure some thing would click inside of me sitting behind the wheel

Anonymous said...

i'll sell both my ducati 848 and wrx to buy one. problem is they will be way over priced here in oz like everything else. look at the price of the skyine here compared to the usa. our dollar is almost equal but the car costs almost double.

I realised the Atom is a bit hard to get into Aus so I'm building a replica. Main frame is nearly complete. Now working on suspension etc. 2lt Honda will be going up back. I will be selling the first one. If anyones interested they can email me treborl@tpg.com.au. Thanks, Rob

The Atom 3 now has a windscreen. Wat else do they want?? Bubble rap??? The government needs to approve this ASAP or everyone is gonna miss out on a huge thing.

Anonymous said...

I'll have to just import one and drive it on vehicle movement permits if there's no joy doing it proper.....

Wilbert Sison said...

It's been years now. Where is it??

Anonymous said...

love this thing. Don't understand why there should be trouble getting these things street legal when motorbikes are street legal. on a bike, You are out there exposed, instead of strapped to a seat in an atom. You are on two wheels instead of four, which makes you more vulnerable to going out of control when you hit a bump or irregularity in the street or travel on loose sand or gravel. bikes have less mass than an atom….there is no way you can win in a bike if you are struck by a car. And lastly, in a bike you are less visible than an atom; you are hard to see. What's wrong with road rules?!

Unknown said...

count me in - get them to Australia and I'll buy one!

Unknown said...

i dont care which one. i want one. but seriously 5 years and theres only ONE?? jebus

Anonymous said...

if ariel made an eco version of this car, with a small non potent motor, it would prabably leave the average commodore or falcon in it's wake, and use under 3 litres per 100km. this angle should be considered by ariel, as there are plenty of cashed up buyers looking for a fun car, but not needing the performance. exceptional fuel economy would also persuade authorities to approve the car for australian roads. of course the euro dicky handed indicator stalks should also be swapped over for oz.

Australia is too much of a nanny state. We are not mature enough to have this. God Australia sux

Barrell_bass said...

Give me one!
This is without a doubt the funnest car you could drive today. there are so many reasons i could think of why we should get the car in Australia and not many as to what the reasons are that they're not here. So bring them over!!

I would definitely buy one if it were road legal. Why hasent this happened yet. They are approved in other countries right?!?!

Phillip said...

I'm planning my entire mid life crisis around the Ariel Atom. The sooner the Atom is here, the sooner my crisis can start, and the longer it will last! I can't wait for my mid life crisis!

Yet again goverment conservative minded boring gits with the IQ of a lettuce and no sense of adventure or humor are dictating to us ( the people ) what is good and not good for us to have/do i a democratic country!!!! please dont make me laugh. maybe after we get issued our id cards and have to retina scan our way into the supermarket will we be allowed to own an atom by which time the oil reserves will have run out.

Anonymous said...

what greater place is there to drive an atom than in Australia; open chassis cruising along a twisty beach road on mild summer night hmm. Hurry up and import then soon

Anonymous said...

I want to order a street legal one and drive it to work and the shops.
When when when???

Anonymous said...

I want one

I hate bikes but an considering buying one for the country drive/ride.however i would much prefer one of these

these things are brilliant

Anonymous said...

Why does the government treat us like babies, you cant do this, you cant do that, you'll get hurt or worse. Yes this car almost brakes the law of physics, but I would rather be in a hairy situation in the Atom than any other car because I know that it is a far superior vehicle, and when you drive it you are fully alert of everything that is going on because you can feel, hear, and see everything.

Please legalise the Ariel Atom, it really is a good little car.

Anonymous said...

This car is incredible, and would be the perfect car for amatuer racers and professionals alike, with its small engine capacity, yet blistering performance. Depending on the price that it gets released for, i would be very, very, VERY interested in getting one!

This car is great we should all be driving 1 .

Anonymous said...

What do we have to get the atom over, who do we have to bribe, iam sure we are all willing to pay

Unknown said...

Cant believe after all these posts, nothing still hasnt been done. Thinking of turning to a cheaper alternative such as a knock-off kit car. The hardest thing for ariel to get into australia would be ADR and compliancing. Even having them in a club and not having them road registerable would be better than nothing.

Anonymous said...

I WANT THIS CAR IN AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm a motorbike rider and I've never had an accident, speeding fine or hooned. I love the feeling of just you and the road, it's thrilling. But, and I'm the first to admit, it's not as safe as a car. The Ariel atom is that happy medium that will allow you to fully appreciate the riding experience in the safety of a car. With the new laws in place, the majority of people who go through the effort of buying and importing one will not risk turning that engineering masterpiece into a oversized paperweight. If people want to see what their car can do they'll take it to the track, like any real car/bike enthusiast.
GIVE AUSTRALIA THE ATOM! - B.L

I will buy this car if it comes to australia

Soon graduating as an engineer, and lined up for a god job. It's a toss up between this and an Audi R8.

Ive never really owned something nice, come from a small country town.

If I've taken the trouble to get through a double engineering degree, I'm going to own a fast car!

InfinitusImmortalis said...

The no. 1 reason it is not in Australia is due to stupid beauracrats and politicians supported by even stupider politicians. Stop voting for petty idiots people!

BlackDeath said...

Just goes to show you how sucky our government laws are where it is legal everywhere else. They enforce useless laws that protect criminals but don;t allow us to drive a great car. Fix the issue and get the Ariel here. I certainly have wanted one since Top Gear 1st showed it in 2005.

Anonymous said...

im buying a bike soon, would much rather fork out the rest of the $$$ to get an Atom :O
