500BHP Ariel Atom in - are you serious?

Well it seems like the team at Ariel are and they're currently working on producing this beast with a 2.4L V8, and with it still likely to weigh in around 500kg, the power to weight ratio is out-of-this-world.

So how much would you expect to pay for this beast & when can you get your hands on one? Well after just hanging up the phone from the Ariel office in the UK, the word from them is around 100,000 pounds sterling which is around $218,000AUD before taking into account import costs, taxes etc. With the compliancing process for the Ariel Atom 2 still yet to be completed, will we ever see one of these on our shores? Don't hold your breath, but isn't it still nice to dream?

So what to you think - is this going to be another dream machine Australia will miss out on? And if so, how disappointed will you be?

Ouch! - I did like the pricing before, this seems like a bit of a jump from V4 to V8 in price. Its sad that theres no ETA or release date - so it could still be a long way off

If it's road legal, I will buy it. If I can't afford it, I'd at least rent it for as long as I can through out the year.

something like that would probably stay as a track day car.. the chances if something that powerful being road legal i'm not so sure of.. wouldn't be suprised if it's being made to beat the Caparo T1 track day car.. with
1045bhp per tonne, looks like ariel are trying to match it

With a couple of years on your drivers licence you can go out and buy any death trap, over powered motorcycle, and legally wrap yourself around a tree. Yet this piece of motoring art, is denied to the Australian pubic? If the Government of the day doesn't wake up and smell public sentiment, It may be time for a coup!
